From the Counsellor

As we have started term 4 and continue online learning at home, it may be starting to feel a little overwhelming and challenging for parents and carers to keep children motivated and engaged. If you are starting to feel that you are becoming stressed, Reach Out has some great resources and support tips for managing your own wellbeing and supporting your child in these uncertain times. Here are three quick tips to help.

  1. Take a breath

When you feel overwhelmed, take a breath to calm yourself down. Try the 4–7–8: breathe in for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and exhale for eight seconds.

  1. Take breaks

Take breaks with your children – go for a walk, cook a meal or play a board game. This will help you and your child to recharge, away from the screens.

  1. Routine helps

Help your family keep a regular schedule. Consistent sleep and wake up times, meal times and rest times will help things feel a bit more in control.
